Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition

The Two Greatest Ships of All Time Are Docked Together for a Limited Engagement

Real Objects / Real Stories

On December 17, 2005 the two greatest ships of all time will be docked together for a limited engagement. Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition aboard the Queen Mary brings to life the tragic sinking of the legendary RMS Titanic through real objects and real stories.

This remarkable exhibition, created with painstaking care by Premier Exhibitions, Inc. and generously expanded for this visit, celebrates the lives of the passengers and crew, both saved and lost in the disaster that claimed the lives of more than 1,500 people on April 15, 1912. The heroic and heartbreaking personal stories of the passengers and crewmembers aboard the ship make this an unforgettable experience for everyone. More than 270 fragile, authentic, beautiful and stunningly preserved artifacts, carefully recovered from the wreckage 2.5 miles below the ocean's surface serve to enhance the stories that unfold throughout this magnificent exhibition.

Expeditions to recover Titanic artifacts have been a collaborative effort between RMS Titanic, Inc.; The French Oceanographic Institute; and the Moscow-based P.P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology. These expeditions have been conducted at the Titanic's wreck site, located 963 miles northeast of New York and 453 miles southeast of the Newfoundland coastline, during the summers of 1987, 1993, 1994, 1996, 2000, and 2004. Each recovered artifact undergoes an extensive conservation process to remove rust and salt deposits, and are then carefully maintained in an environment of controlled temperature and humidity.

The Queen Mary is the ideal setting to experience life aboard a passenger liner and sets the eerily-perfect mood to experience the exhibition. Go back in time as you wander through authentically recreated First and Third Class Cabins. Explore theories of this tragic tale; learn about the aftermath of the disaster, the relief funds, and the efforts to find over 1,500 lost loved ones.

The Art Deco corridors of the Queen Mary provide the ultimate opportunity for visitors throughout Southern California to experience the lavish splendor and rich history of both Ships and their unique relationship to each other. See rare artifacts, touch an iceberg, and allow your imagination to compare and visualize maritime icons in a way no history book or documentary can.
