Music and Dancing

Traditional Highland dancing was once considered an athletic event due to the stamina and physical strength required to perform a variety of traditional Scottish dances, including the Highland Fling, the Sword Dance and the Scottish Lilt. In fact, until the 1900’s, only men performed highland dancing. Today, you can enjoy both men and women perform a variety of traditional Scottish dances, including the Highland Fling, the Sword Dance and even the Scottish Lilt.

One of the most popular competitions at ScotsFestival each year is the pipe bands. Featuring a wide range of piping competitions, including solo piping, ensemble piping, and of course, the incredible pipe band ensemble. Watch the pipe bands march together in perfect unison while playing traditional Scottish favorites likes, “Scotland the Brave” or “Amazing Grace.”

Today, bagpipes don’t just represent the Highland Games but have come to symbolize Scotland itself.
