The Opportunity

We are currently looking for an Event Accounting Manager to join our team at the legendary Queen Mary. Located in the Port of Long Beach, the Queen Mary features a rich maritime history, authentic Art Deco décor, and stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and Long Beach city skyline. At the time of her maiden voyage in May of 1936, she was considered the grandest ocean liner ever built. Today the Queen Mary is one of Los Angeles’ major attractions, drawing visitors from around the world. The Queen Mary boasts 346 staterooms spanning three decks including nine full suites which have hosted a variety of colorful characters from World War II leaders to British royalty and the stars of Hollywood’s golden era. The ship also features 80,000 square feet of event space in 17 remarkable Art Deco salons as well as a tri-level, 45,000-square-foot Exhibit Hall; signature restaurants including the award-winning Sir Winston’s and Chelsea Chowder House & Bar; and a selection of retail shops. History buffs enjoy the ship’s museum and Behind the Scenes tour, while guests of all ages love the Ghosts and Legends tour and special events such as Scottish Festival, Dark Harbor, and concerts that are hosted on or by the ship throughout the year.

Job Responsibilities
The Event Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of daily and monthly event reporting. In addition, the position reviews reports, manages the event department payroll, identifies discrepancies and takes corrective action as appropriate. Key responsibilities include:

  • Processing Monthly & Weekly revenue & expense forecast
  • Performing detailed daily income audit
  • Validating all ticket revenue for accuracy
  • Working with the ticketing department to ensure tickets are created properly
  • Ensuring the accuracy of daily revenue reports
  • Reconciling all 3rd party ticket revenue for accurate posting
  • Ensuring all event specific receivables are collected in accordance with policy
  • Preparing and distributing event specific income summary reports
  • Preparing and distributing weekly and monthly forecast owner reports
  • Reviewing daily labor reports for productivity performance; addressing concerns as appropriate
  • Processing timely and accurate bi-monthly payroll, including time edits, tip declaration, gratuity distributions and incentive disbursements in compliance with state and federal labor laws
  • Communicating effectively with the leadership team on labor trends and areas for improvement
  • Ensuring that invoices, paid outs, rebates, time sheets, overtime authorizations, punch detail authorizations, etc. are properly documented and signed.
  • Posting journal entries for inter-departmental labor transfers as needed
  • Performing month end processing; adjusting journal entries and accruals by the fifth of the month
  • Producing Cost of Sale analysis for special events
  • Attending event meetings
  • Maintaining harmonious communication with Director of events
  • Supporting Events department in management of checkbook and financial management tools

Job Requirements
The minimum qualifications for this position are:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Background in hotel and/or food and beverage is a plus
  • Degree in accounting, finance, hospitality management or related a plus
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel)
  • Excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to interact with various audiences
  • Strong financial and technical skills
  • Must be able to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with team members at all levels of the organization
  • Must be able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality with respect to any and all confidential information disclosed
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays
  • Aptitude for performing numerical analysis of data and formulating conclusions and/or solutions
  • Ability to use logic to define a problem, collect information, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, interpret information and deal with abstract variables for unique or unfamiliar situations
  • Demonstrated ability in completing tasks on time
  • Ability to work independently, with minimum supervision, and be a team player
  • Proficient in 10-Key operation by touch and data entry
