Wall of Heroes

You can commemorate World War II service aboard THE QUEEN MARY, either for yourself or a loved one, by sponsoring a plaque on "The Grey Ghost Wall of Heroes." Painted camouflage grey during the war years, the mighty luxury liner turned troopship was nicknamed "The Grey Ghost" because her great speed enabled her to continually elude the enemy.

Reclaimed during deck restoration, most of the original teak is being refinished and returned to the new deck, but a limited supply of small pieces is not suitable for reuse. These are portions of the very deck trod upon by the brave men and women of the allied countries who set out to secure peace for the world. Each 3 & 5/8" x 7" x 1/4" teak plaque may be inscribed with name and rank, branch of service or affiliation, hometown, state or region, country and the month and year aboard. You will also receive a handsome certificate of authenticity.

It is a memorable and thoughtful gift and all proceeds will be exclusively dedicated to the historic renovation and preservation of THE QUEEN MARY.     Cost: Sponsor your original teak plaque on the Grey Ghost Wall of Heroes for $100 EACH.

You may also purchase original teak replicas of your plaque for your office, home or as commemorative gifts. Each 3 1/2" x 6" x 1" replica will carry the exact inscription you choose for the wall plaque plus information about the "Grey Ghost Wall of Heroes" and authentication as a portion of the original teak deck.

Please note that the original teak for these replicas is in limited supply, and orders will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Replicas to take home will only be sold in conjunction with your purchase of the commemorative plaque to be installed on the "Grey Ghost Wall of Heroes" aboard THE QUEEN MARY.
